Capsule Resume

Anita Blakley joined LGL Limited in 1995 and has participated in a diversity of projects ranging from surgically tagging salmonids to First Nation fisheries co-management. She was instrumental in managing a multi-year Yukon River Salmon Harvest Basin Study for the Council of Yukon First Nations. Anita has extensive experience working on a wide variety of Recreational Creel Surveys. She has provided database and management support which produced in‑season reports for the Lower Skeena River, Peace River, and Haida Gwaii Recreational Creel Surveys. Since 1999, Anita has surgically implanted acoustic and radio transmitters into juvenile Chinook, Sockeye and Steelhead salmon to estimate the survival rate and behavior of the fish during outmigration passing dams on the mid-Columbia River. In addition, Anita has experience surgically implanting transmitters into Pacific Lamprey, White Sturgeon, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Northern Pike Minnow. She has also practiced other forms of tagging: elastomer, spaghetti, and gastric. Anita has provided technical assistance to many BC First Nations (e.g., Tsawwassen, Tla'amin, Kitsumkalum, Nisga'a, Metlakatla) to develop their fisheries catch monitoring programs, focusing on in‑season measures (data collection guidelines, daily checklist for catch monitors) to prevent future gaps in data collection and delays in data processing and reporting.
