  • B.Sc.: University of New Orleans (Earth and Environmental Sciences – Coastal Science) 2016
Sara Stewart joined LGL Ecological Research Associates, Inc., in March 2020. She earned a B.Sc. from the University of New Orleans in 2016 with a major in Earth and Environmental Sciences – Coastal Science option. Prior to joining LGL, Sara worked for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries as a Biologist performing fisheries monitoring throughout the Barataria Basin. Since joining LGL, she has participated in several field-based projects in the Gulf of Mexico. She was heavily involved in a federally funded study designed to characterize shrimp trawl by-catch. This work involved direct contact with shrimp industry captains, acquiring samples from their vessels and then working with a team to conduct taxonomic identification, sort, characterize, and quantify by-catch samples gathered from around the entire Gulf. Sara also participated in a study, funded by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries designed to characterize and quantify the Red Snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) population in the waters offshore of Louisiana. The study included extensive field sampling within both natural and artificial reefs, offshore oil & gas platforms, and uncharacterized bottom using submersible rotating video cameras, active hydroacoustics and composition sampling. All sampled fish were measured, weighed, and their ages were determined from otolith extraction and analysis. Sara participated in all aspects of field and laboratory sampling and analysis.
