Dr. Alana Demko joined LGL Limited as an Ecologist in June 2021. Her M.Sc. and Ph.D. research focused on the vocalizations, behavioural ecology, and conservation of both temperate-zone and tropical songbird species. Dr. Demko has over 15 years of field-based avian ecological experience with biodiversity and conservation projects throughout North America, the Caribbean, and Central America. She has also completed winter mammal tracking surveys in northern Alberta and Saskatchewan, and amphibian breeding censuses and behavioural studies in Central America. Dr. Demko’s primary area of biological expertise is bioacoustics: the study of animal sounds. She has extensive experience in the deployment of autonomous recording units (ARUs) to collect animal acoustic data, and in the transcription and analysis of ARU data for animal monitoring projects at various spatial scales. Dr. Demko has published several scientific articles in peer-reviewed ornithological and behavioural journals based on her graduate research, and has presented the results of these studies at professional scientific conferences.
