Brett Fried
Environmental Technician

Brett Fried has been an environmental technician with LGL since 2022. Brett is passionate for Ornithology and been involved in the Ontario birdwatching scene for more than 20 years and has been bird banding for over 15 years. During this time, he has expanded his interest into several other taxonomic groups, including mammals, butterflies, dragonflies, reptiles, amphibians, and botany. He has served as Secretary to the Ontario Birds Records Committee and is currently the manager of Ontario’s bird alert platform – Ontario Bird Alert (Discord). His passion for bird banding and research has led him to become a North American Banding Council (NABC) Certified Bander and Trainer.

Brett has conducted extensive field work across Canada in both remote and industrial settings. His field skills include migration monitoring, breeding bird surveys, species at risk surveys, species inventories, nest searching, wildlife camera monitoring, ARU deployment and monitoring, bird and bat banding, marsh monitoring, anuran surveys, and telemetry tracking. Since joining LGL, Brett has been involved in a wide variety of projects including environmental assessments, impact assessments, species inventories, breeding bird surveys, anuran surveys, arboriculture, and long term monitoring programs. His experience extends beyond the field and into the office where he assists with proposal writing, project logistics, data quality assurance, and quality control.
