Dr. Lewis Naisbett-Jones joined LGL in 2022 as a Research Scientist. He received his B.Sc. in Marine and Freshwater Biology in 2014, his Master’s in Aquatic Ecology in 2017, and his doctorate in 2022 from the University of North Carolina in Biology, specializing in fish migration. Dr. Naisbett-Jones has over 10 years of experience working on fisheries research projects internationally. Recent projects have involved characterizing bycatch in the Louisiana menhaden purse seine fishery, evaluating the efficacy of marine protected areas in the Southeastern U.S. for fish spawning, and testing vessel tracking systems for the Gulf shrimp fishery. In 2020, Dr. Naisbett-Jones was contracted by the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries to lead a large, multi-year collaborative project investigating the spawning migrations of sheepshead, a popular commercial and recreational fish in North Carolina. Dr. Naisbett-Jones has expertise in diverse marine research methods including, but not limited to: reef fish surveys, acoustic and satellite telemetry, otolith analysis, trawling, and scuba surveys. He also has extensive experience communicating with diverse audiences (fishermen, industry, government agencies, scientists, and the general public) through outreach, scientific publications, interviews with the popular press, social media, and liaison with stakeholders.
