About the Role

The Senior Aquatic Scientist will lead a team of biologists to support current and future clients in the design and implementation of water quality baseline studies, impact assessments, and long-term monitoring projects. Work will include client liaison, proposal development, project planning, implementation, and delivery including data collection, entry, analysis, and reporting with the expectation to contribute to peer‑reviewed publications and/or presentations at relevant scientific conferences. This individual will be knowledgeable and experienced with water chemistry analysis, the application of ecological principles, and practices to protect and manage water quality under federal and provincial regulatory frameworks in Canada. What You Will Do

  • Lead our water quality team and build business in LGL’s water quality sector
  • Design and implement water quality monitoring programs incorporating biomonitoring aspects
  • Conduct field investigations to support water quality, sediment quality and biomonitoring programs
  • Consolidate, manage, and assess large water quality datasets
  • Provide subject matter expertise and lead technical writing and developing strategies for clients on baseline studies, federal and provincial environmental assessments, regulatory permitting, compliance monitoring programs, due diligence projects and related activities
  • Communicate with colleagues, clients, agencies and other stakeholders through meetings, presentations, and workshops

What You Will Bring

  • An advanced degree in environmental science (or related) with an understanding of limnology, ecology, and/or toxicology
  • Five years, or more, of experience in water quality sampling, design, and data analysis
  • Experience in business development with writing proposals, and preparing work plans and budgets
  • Experience developing and managing projects, including budget and schedule control
  • Proficiency in field applications for water, sediment, and biological sampling and demonstrated field experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to lead a team and provide guidance, support, and mentorship to colleagues
  • Working knowledge of statistical software such as R, and ability to apply appropriate univariate and multivariate statistical methods
  • Knowledge and experience with regulatory frameworks and the development of environmental quality benchmarks (e.g., water quality guidelines) are additional qualities of interest
